SquishMat matches you to a mattress the way an engineer would: by looking at what the mattress is actually made of and how that construction holds up under a body like yours. You answer a short quiz — body type, sleep position, what you like and don't — and we score every mattress in our catalog against your answers.
How the matching works
Most mattress sites rank beds by editorial opinion or by who pays the most. We rank them with data. For each mattress in our catalog we curate the construction itself: every layer's material and thickness, foam densities, coil gauges and counts — sourced from published teardowns and manufacturer specifications. Those numbers drive the scoring. A 3.0 lb/ft³ memory foam over thin-gauge coils scores differently for a 250-pound side sleeper than for a 130-pound back sleeper, because it will genuinely wear differently under each of them.
When the data isn't good enough to say something honestly, we'd rather say nothing. Prices are checked against retailers' own listings daily, and deal callouts only appear when our own tracking history can back them up.
Independence
No brand can pay to be listed, to rank higher, or to be recommended. Some of our retailer links may earn a commission if you buy — that's how the site pays for itself — but the scoring algorithm has no input for commissions, and your results would be the same if every one of those relationships vanished. The details are in our affiliate disclosure.
Who runs this
SquishMat is built and run by one independent developer — no media company, no mattress-industry parent. That's a small operation, but it's also why the site can afford to be honest: there's no sales team to disappoint.
